after sanding the linings to be flush with the sides I had to do
something about the dust covering me and my shop.
So here's the solution this far: a box with a really stable top made
from a laminate (that looks like wood...) clad with sandpaper. Between
the strips are holes through the top, and the shop vac is connected
through a hole in one of the walls.
Preliminary tests says it's a winner - the sawdust disappears
magically even when the vac is at a really low and almost quiet setting.
And as you also see, both sides have been fitted with blocks and top-
side linings.

Maybe noone asked it but that doesn't mean it's not an appropriate question.
The sawdust of rosewood and ebony (can you say "fingerboards" boys and girls?) are poisonous. Imagine your reaction to coming in contact with poison ivy. Now imagine that same reaction inside your lungs because you've breathed in the poisonous compounds.
You're right, Hobbit, even mahogany can really mess my nose up. It seems to be worse with older pieces. Or maybe that's just my imagination.
Of course sawdust can also hurt you in another more complicated way - try covering your wife's thing with it, then wait and see.
